I realize that the last thing you’re probably thinking is: no more shopping. Even Leandra Medine isn’t shopping in January. But I’m all for the basics, the newness and the refresh button. After all, it is indeed 2017 and we can’t escape the capitalist society we live in. For me, that means finding key pieces that I’ll definitely be wearing – even though it’s under layers and layers. This isn’t necessarily some trendy list of things you should/can get. These are suggestions of things that can endure and withstand the test of time and survive season after season in your closet. Basics if you will.
With each coming fashion month, online stores and fashion websites start to get caught up in the mesh. We’re talking street style stalking, runway looks, after-parties and endless Insta Stories. I find that some key pieces are always going to be present. Mainly, because they actually work. It’s not some voodoo shit. So, I decided to put together 7 key pieces we should all get now (or maybe you already have) for the girls on a budget, and not.
#1 Essential Denim
Denim is one of the most essential pieces we have in our closet. I even tried to go one week without it and, boy, it was hard! I find comfort in knowing I have an amazing pair of jeans to fall back on. The frayed hem is still going to be everywhere and faded washes are coming in. Here are my suggestions:
#2 White Shade Shoe
This is not an easy sentence to say. White shade shoe. Spring is almost (almost!) around the corner, and I’m finding it hard to ignore the white shade shoe. I got a pair of white boots last year, and have to say I still love them. Never have I ever thought I would be sporting them but hey, people change. Here’s my selection:
#3 Next Level Knit
Finding the perfect knit can be daunting. I know it. I lost the amount of knits I ordered and returned over the count that they were too bulky. Short. Or the wrong fit. Choose the perfect knit that’s keeping you warm and giving you style points. Here are a few to shop through:
#4 Color Block Bag
Gucci is spoiling us. Everywhere I look, I see Gucci bags with the most unexpected colors. One of the most important key pieces this season is definitely having a bag that can stand out on its own. A bag that will pop up immediately and with which you can be wearing all black. Here are my options:
#5 Logo or Slogan Tee
Guys, we’ve talked about it before (most recently here and here). And you know how a good logo or slogan tee can be a hook. Even a conversation starter. The options are infinite right now and you can opt for your favorite rock band or just your year of birth. Shop some favorites:
#6 Printed Dress
Even last Spring, we saw so many printed dresses everywhere. In 2017, it’s still a key piece in your wardrobe. So you either keep the ones you already have, and mix them up, or get yourself a new set of beautiful print dresses. Take your pick:
#7 Pleated Skirt
Again, nothing new here. We’ve been seeing pleated skirts for the past few years (3 or 4 to be exact). And it’s such an easy trend to pull off. I always thought that short girls could not wear pleated midi skirts, but it turns out, with the right one, they can. It’s no secret I love this piece, and have worn it so many different ways.
