Remember last year when I wrote this post? Little did I know about last week, and then some. I don’t even know how to begin writing this post because, the whole experience feels highly surreal. There’s a whole highlight dedicated to it on my Instagram. And I’m going to be answering all your questions about New York Fashion Week, today. I gathered the most important and frequently asked and even decided to dedicated an entire week on the blog to it. Leaving nothing untold for all the curious George’s like me.
How did I get the gig?
Let’s start from the beginning. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I worked for Zanita. That wonderful and heart-craze experience was one of the greatest I’ve had so far. And I can honestly say I learned a lot. I worked along amazing and inspiring people, and one of them I still remain friends with. Two days before New York Fashion Week started, she contacted me about assisting an LA based blogger during the entire week. We can all guess what my answer was. I didn’t even think twice.
What was I doing?
I’m an all-hands-on-deck-kind-of-gal. I do everything from creating, to editing, to posting, to keep track. And this was quite similar. What I initially thought I was doing was very different than the outcome – and so much better. I was keeping track of time (to which there’s a learning curve), help organizing the closet, outfits, accessories, creating content, taking photos, recording videos, editing photos and said videos and accompanying to events and presentations. Doing exactly what I do for myself, but for someone else, and more.
How long was I working for?
I assisted 8 days – one of them working from home – and as long as I was needed, wherever I was needed. I just wanted to be there.
What sort of events/shows did I go to?
I did not attend shows. Let’s start with that. I’m totally aware of the limitations of attending a show during New York Fashion Week. So, I would just drive up, wait for the show to be over and go to the next appointment. I did however, go to presentations, which are a little bit more relaxed and there’s a whole environment around them – like Cinq à Sept or Chanel. I also attended a couple of cool events.
How was the experience?
The question was actually made during, so more like, how’s the experience going? And to say I’m starstruck, amazed, and still can’t believe it, it’s undermining the whole thing. I would never say, two weeks ago, that I would be doing it, and working for someone who was kind enough to bring me along. The days were long, the sleep was down to a minimum, the bags were deep. But in the end, I only retained all the good that happened.
Did it all went smoothly? Are there any dirts?
There were definitely some mistakes, tears, sweat, frustration and lack of sleep. And the thing is, I would do it all over again. Being my first time, I was bound to drop a few balls – which I did. The best thing you can do in those situations, is apologize and try to compensate as much as possible. Fortunately nothing was severe and we fixed the problems the best way we could. No dirts coming from me! Sorry!
What was the high point of your experience?
The fashion! It blew me away. Especially seeing the Chanel Haute Couture collection that just debuted in Paris. I didn’t share this with anyone, but I actually cried before going to bed that day, re-looking at all the pictures. I was so moved, amazed, perplexed by all of it. And the fact that I got to tell part of the story later the same day in class, was even more rewarding.
Did you see Aimee Song?
This was one of the most asked questions. And I did see Aimee. At a few different occasions during New York Fashion Week. But I also saw Anna Wintour, Eva Chen, Amelia Diamond, Olivia Palermo, Zanita, Marianna Hewitt, Erica Choi, Courtney Trop, Lainy Hedaya, Danielle Bernstein, and worked along side Pam Hetlinger. Blogger royalty, as I mentioned on my Instagram.
Stay tuned for more posts coming this week, all about what I wore, my daily routine, trends I spotted and what we will be wearing this coming season and year. If there’s any other questions you’d like to know, don’t be shy and write down in the comments. I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.
