What I Would Wear to Fashion Week

I know what you must be thinking. She’s never been. Maybe she never will be. But she can dream. My husband has a saying that goes like this: you might not touch the moon, but at least your feet rose from the ground. Ever since I moved to New York (3 years ago), New York Fashion Week has been on my radar. It’s not just another event, it’s a series of inspiration and magnification of the fashion industry. I might not be an expert on all of it, but I can feel the excitement and learn from the showcases. Intently.

Every year, I ponder what I’d wear to day one, two, three. And this year, I decided to snap 4 different outfits I would totally wear strolling the streets of New York. Phone in one hand, camera on the other. I’m always in awe, following around bloggers on Instagram. And I love to see the new comers, the veterans, the pros. There are so many different points of view to the events and it’s great to find a common ground between them.

I usually leave the shows to watch after the whole thing is over. Take the afternoon off to scroll through the endless string of inspiring pieces. I also take notes and create mood boards to better understand where the designers are coming from. Especially after starting my Parson’s course earlier this year. So it feels only natural to focus a post on the outfits I would potentially wear.

#1 Leather Skirt

I’ve seen all sorts of leather skirts throughout this NYFW. I got this one at Zara (could not find the link) recently and fell in love with the unusual shape and style. September fashion weeks are always an ode to great style. Even though I love to see how people pull off February – with the cold temperatures and all. You get to see everything that it-girls are going to be wearing, and leather skirts are it (seen here, here and here)!

#2 Chinese Print

Prints are, and always will be, big hits during fashion week. I got these pants a while back, and love to pair them with anything but a plain top. But for this occasion, and during these troubled times, I would definitely wear a statement tee (seen here, here and here).

#3 Checked Blazer

Checked. Checked everywhere. This fashion week, street style and runways are talking about the check print like never before. Or some years ago, because you know, fashion is cyclic. This blazer is in more than ever and I could not love it more. Especially for this transition weather when you don’t know exactly what to wear. I even threw a few man oversized pieces for a cooler look (seen here, here and here).

#4 Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits are my favorite thing to wear. They are easy, slip right in and you just have to wear the right accessories. This was the one I had the hardest time finding in this September’s street style, but saw all over the runway. Public School, which is the ultimate cool girl street chic, had the most amazing collection with jumpsuits. Focused on the complex image of the émigré experience, which is a subject very dear to my heart. They clash cultural identities that flourish, shift and reinvent in combination with the multiethnic cities, like NY (seen here, and here).
