I was 8, my parents, brother and I, were traveling through Europe. Halfway to Sweden, we stopped in Amsterdam. All I remember was the bikes, the canals and my first pair of sunglasses. They were these orange, acrylic, cat-eyed sunglasses. I still have them back home. All my summer pictures, I was wearing them and the infatuation went on. Until a few years later, I got another pair during summer. It has, since, become a summer tradition and that’s why they’re my favorite summer accessory.
My ultimate dream pair are my Clubmaster’s, from Rayban (seen here). They were the only pair I had for a handful of years. I’m obsessed with a good pair of sunglasses, and think they are as important as any other accessory. This year, I went a bit crazy and got a few cheaper pairs – like these from Mango, Pull&Bear and again Mango. I love to experiment with my outfits, so figured, why not play with my favorite summer accessory.
A pair of sunglasses creates the perfect balance in an outfit. It can easily translate into your mood. I wear my round Gucci’s when I’m feeling playful and my round Mango’s when I’m feeling mysterious. Recently, I was introduced to Warby Parker*. An affordable alternative to buying sun and eyeglasses. Their story is actually pretty funny and came from where every other successful idea comes from: an urging need. Getting a pair of glasses a few years ago was one of the most expensive things. Mine had to last 5 to 7 years with the occasional lenses change.
But like anything else, an opportunity arose and they created a different way to buy sun and eyeglasses. I ordered 5 options – at no cost – and tried them on to see which frame was my favorite. While you also have eyeglasses, I went for my favorite summer accessory. And the fact is, I loved them all. They are beautifully made, similar to brands that are more expensive and fit perfectly. At the end, you pick the pair you love and ship the others back.
