Beauty Week: Keep Your Skin Healthy During Holiday Season

We all know the drill. Holiday party season always takes a toll on our bodies, mind and skin. We look forward to it all year but, when the time comes, we can’t wait until it’s over. I for one love the season. But there’s always extra effort to keep your skin healthy during the holiday season. It’s not that hard, but it requires some time and patience. When all you want to do, after a party, is go home and sleep. But it’s well worth it. Maintaining your skin glowing and healthy is imperative.

For my skin, it’s holiday season all year long. I take extra care to keep it from breaking out, dark spots or (more) wrinkles. But since for most, it’s the time to indulge, here are a few tips and tricks, of my own experience, to help you take the best care.

Remove your make up.

Your probably saying by now, we know. But what I mean is, remove your make up as soon as you get home. Don’t let it be on your skin longer than you have to. And if you carry around , even better. Do it in the car, on your commute or taxi. It saves you time and by the time you get home, you just need a quick splash with some warm water.

Apply moisturizer.

Especially if your holiday season is spent somewhere cold. My skin tends to dry up even faster. It almost seems like it sucks all the water in the first 5 minutes of applying moisturizer. I often re-apply it (if not wearing any makeup) or get an extra for hydration. That’s how you keep your skin healthy.

Do regular masks.

If you’re submitting your skin to more makeup, it’s important to go the extra mile. Get a few masks and do it 3 to 4 times a week. You don’t have to spend a ton of money on them. Sephora has amazing masks at a great price range. Or, if you’d rather go for a more expensive option, you can always go to a mask specialist.

Drink more water.

This one is definitely in the books. Drinking water is the best source of hydration your skin can get. But during the holiday season, to keep your skin healthy, you definitely have to up your H2O intake. You can find different ways to drink it. Whether with lemon, tea, with fruits and vegetables. Take your pick.

Squeeze in any exercise.

Time is of the essence. I know. But you can just take 20 minutes and do it in your living room. Doesn’t have to be more than that. If not, you can opt for different things like, walking to the party, instead of taking a cab. Getting off one stop early on the subway. Take your dog for longer walks – if you have a dog of course. Exercising is a good way to release all the dirt in our body.
