One year ago yesterday (March 15th) I was having one of the happiest days of my life! I was not the type of girl who dreamed about getting married, wearing a white dress and doing all those typical wedding things. At the time, me and M were together for almost four years and the opportunity to come to the United States had presented itself, so we decided to take the next step in our relationship and get married. I didn’t had a year to prepare, I had a month and a half, roughly. With the help of close friends and family, we had to be highly pro-active – and I have to say the most tricky part was having a dress made. Luckily enough, I belong to a very creative bunch of people and all together we managed the visual part of the wedding.
The day was magical and, even though it was winter, we had a summer-like day where we didn’t even need coats. It felt like everything was aligned for us to get married. The day, the venue, the people, the spirit, the food, the drinks, everything was perfect. We got married in our hometown and the whole weekend was beyond anything anyone can imagine. We had a lot of surprises along the way – my mother made and sang us a song, a group of my Lisbon friends as well, it seemed everyone was in the mood for a wedding.
One of the things that caught me a little off guard, was the amount of friends that came from all over Europe just to be with us that day, some couldn’t make it but were there anyway. One of them was my brother who flew from Sweden just to spend the weekend and even posted about it (you can read about how many kilometers were travelled just for one day). No amount of words can express what everything meant to me and M, but all the tears, laughter, smiles and hugs make up for the lack of it. Hope you all had a great weekend, mine was spent reminiscing about one of the best days of my life.
