Managing a Hectic Schedule and Still Finding Time For Me

Last week I asked on Instagram if you guys wanted me to talk about managing a hectic schedule and still feeling invigorated. Some of you answered on the picture and others sent private messages saying yes, which was amazing. Thank you so much! (Again, I’d rather be writing content that you ask for). Ever since we came back from Portugal, going on 3 months now, things have been crazy busy. I don’t know why, but suddenly, there were a thousand things to do everyday and 24 hours aren’t enough.

By the end of January, I also started a certificate course at Parson’s, which seems like a second full time job. There’s always a lot of homework and catching up to do. And since I have class even on Saturday, seems like I get no rest. I reach Saturday afternoon in a state where I just want to lay down and do nothing. Last week I started to get a foggy vision by end’s day. I’m honestly feeling exhausted and burned out. Which happens when you think about work 24/7. I wake up early in the morning and go to bed late at night. This past weekend was the first time I gave myself some space to actually sleep through and not be bothered by alarm clocks.

I’m doing something I love every single day. My blog makes me breach boundaries with myself. My constant need to create content, and love for sharing it, is a call out. There’s nothing that gives me more pleasure than write a post, take the pictures and hit schedule. My course is making me broaden my horizons. I’m learning things I had no idea, and how to understand that every little thing happening in the world influences fashion. And my freelance projects help me be in the game and not forget what I’ve learned.

Ultimately, your passion is going to be what drives you. You have to listen to that voice telling you why you keep going, even though your body tells you not to. I try to divide my time between writing and preparing posts, keeping up with the blogs, news websites and daily reads and allocating some time for my projects. Now I added on homework and paying extra attention to fashion websites.

But don’t forget one thing that, more often than not, I do. To rest and give yourself a break. I tend to spiral into a bubble where nothing else matters and keep forgetting about everything else. My parents even told me last week how little we’ve been talking. I stop texting friends, watching movies, reading books and just focus on my goals. Which could be good, but isn’t. There has to be a break from it all. From learning, writing, consuming information.

Know that you will survive, even if you don’t know what happen with the Trump administration or which designer left which house. But you won’t if you don’t take care of yourself. Know that you can watch that movie you’ve watched a 100 times, if it helps you clear your head. Or indulge in a little something-something to bring your spirits up.

#1 Focus on your goals.

#2 Take care of yourself.

#3 Take a break.

#4 Do something fun and care-free every week.

#5 Drink one, or two, glasses of wine.

#6 Go for a walk with no phone.

#7 Do something good for someone.

#8 Treat yourself to something nice – like a massage, a facial, a new haircut.

#9 Stand your ground.

#10 Learn to say no.

Bottom line is, you should always try to do what you love. Work fucking hard for it. Learn how managing a hectic schedule can make you an excellent professional. But don’t forget you deserve to take a break. Especially after shitty week after shitty week.
