Best Purchases of 2016

Every year is defined by a lot of different things. Special and difficult moments, milestones, anniversaries, weddings, and so on. But one thing that definitely defines my year, are purchases. I’m what you can call a mild shopaholic. I’ve been getting very conscious about the purchases I do and following the 24 hour rule of thumb. If you don’t remember the item the next day, discard it. Because my year was made better by all these things, here are the top items that were my best purchases of 2016.

Mom jeans

best purchases

Roughly a month and a half into last year, I had to fly back home to see my grandfather. While there, I went shopping with a friend and we both bought these mom jeans from Pull&Bear. It has to be my most worn item (seen here, here, here, here and so many other times). It made the top of my best purchases because of how comfortable, cheap and great quality they are.

Kettle

I’ve always had a love relationship with the SMEG brand. And still remember the first time I saw their fridge – about 10 years ago. When we decided to move, in September last year, I told my husband I wanted to slowly get a few SMEG products. This was the first one. It’s a bit of an investment piece, but it makes out lives so much easier – and cooking so much faster. I use it every single day to make my tea, once a week to make soup and whenever I want to quickly heat up water to cook. It shuts off when the water starts boiling and it’s pretty to look at.

Glossier

best purchases

One of the last weeks of 2016 was dedicated to beauty (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). And on Tuesday, I ranted on and on about Glossier. Even though it was a late discovery, I’m so glad I tried out their products. Hopefully, in the future, I can convert all my beauty products into Glossier’s. My skin has never felt better and I could not recommend it more.

Styling Wand

best purchases

Ever since I moved to New York, my hair has been taking a turn. I have no idea what’s going, but I’ve been losing all my natural curls. Around January, I invested in a . And aside from my most used wand turning yellowish, I could not be more satisfied. It’s the perfect trio for curly hairs and if you just want to touch them up. They have 3 different sizes and I’ve tried them all. After that, I also got their hair  and .

Handheld Vacuum

best purchases

This might look like a silly item to be on the best purchases list, but it’s a miracle one. Ever since we got Poppy, the apartment gets messier and dirtier quickly. Even though I’m a neat freak, I’ve learned to control my anxiety and feel happy that our home is so complete with him. But a month into moving, I started realizing how tired I was of pulling the big vacuum cleaner we have. Mainly to clean a few dusty corners. So we decided to get a  that’s been a life saver. I can’t tell you how many time we’ve used it to clean small messes.

Battery Case

best purchases

Trying to figure what to get my husband for anniversaries or special occasions is no pickle. But when there’s no event in particular, I always find great gifts. When we switched to iPhone 6’s, in 2015, I found that the battery spam was too short. Whenever I would go to the city, it would die within hours of using Instagram, maps or Safari. The same thing would happen to M. So I decided to get both of us Mophie cases. And it was indeed, a great purchase. We still use them today and they are a great external battery source. Whilst providing extra protection to our phones.
