Healthy Habits to Have Before You’re 30

This week is my birthday. I’m keeping very quiet about it until today – even though I believe we should always celebrate all week. Tomorrow, I turn 28! And while no crisis is averted, I’m still feeling a bit shaky about it. Not that it’s a bad age, but I’m only 2 years away from 30 and that makes you think. I thought I had everything set out but nothing ever turns out like you planned. You end up feeling very naive, thinking that you might follow it through, when life teaches us how unpredictable it can be.

Last week, I was alone at home, thinking about how lucky I was to have had grandparents for 27 years. How my parents are the single greatest thing in my life. I’m living in New York City and have lived in Dubai. Married to the man of my dreams. How family is so important – both yours and your husband’s. And even more, how important it is to be healthy, happy and sane.

I feel very entitled to talk about how scary and wonderful this age can be. While I still have 365 brand new days ahead, I also have to think about taking care of me and working on my best possible version. I’ve heard things start to get harder, but not necessarily worse. In fact, everyone says how great the last 20’s are. So here are a few habits I’ve come to develop, or still want to, before I’m 30.

#1 Detox Routine

Especially now that hangovers and excesses are harder to deal with! It’s important to have a detox routine for the following days. And that’s what I’ve been doing lately. I started this project – which I’m going to share very soon – where I eat healthy most of the time. But there are cheat meals that tend to make me feel a bit nauseous after. So for that, I have the next few days to detox. Either with just vegetables and fruits or juices and, plenty of water. It’s only natural to have a plan that’s going to make our body feel better after whatever it was we did to it.

#2 Skin Routine

Even though it’s important at all ages, approaching 30 can be the hardest. Wrinkles, lines, dark spots, grey hairs. It all starts popping. I’ve had wrinkles since I was 15. But I’m all about preventing and taking care. I’ve been very consistent with my skin regimen – and extra for my birthday. But it all comes down to finding products you love and sticking to them every single day. Twice!

#3 Meal Routine

As I’m moving through my 20’s, I’m feeling a lot more appreciative of every meal. Eating is one of the most enjoyable times I can share with people, or even alone. I’m definitely getting into taking my time with food, cooking, savoring, sipping.

#4 Workout Routine

I guess this is the one I struggle the most as of late. I have periods of time where I’m committed and, others, not really. I focus a lot on events like, summer, my birthday, New Year’s. When I should have a consistent workout schedule. Even if it’s just half an hour, it’s important to squeeze in a little something. I’m getting over finding excuses and just getting down to business.

#5 Husband Routine

I try to steer clear of very personal and intimate things on the blog. Especially when it comes to my relationship with my husband. But truth be told, with such crazy schedules and living a bit further away from his job, our time together has shrunken. Which makes me realize that, when we are actually together, we really should enjoy each others company. It’s important to come up with things we can both do and rituals we can stick to. Even if there’s no time, people have to make it.
