If you follow me on Instagram, you might’ve already seen some stories about how I attended the Bloglovin’ Awards for the first time. It was because of where I’m currently working – we were nominated for Best Blogger Business. The ceremony was Monday night, in the midst of New York Fashion Week. It was my first ever, and it was surreal.
I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t like the experience, I loved it. But at the same time, came out a little surprised. Blogs have become total businesses and people have to act accordingly. You don’t go to a business meeting and act super duper nice. You behave professionally. I felt a little overwhelmed, because the biggest part of the blogger population I follow on Instagram were there. It’s funny to see, some of them, for the first time and others for the second or third.
It’s amazing how you follow them, comment their pictures, read their blogs (yes, I actually read them) and feel so intimated or in awe of their realness. But something I commented with the team was that, some of them seem more real on their blogs and social media. More approachable. More empathetic. And nicer. Not to say someone was rude or anything like that, but it’s just the image they maybe have to give the outside world.
The show was short and sweet.
There was a cocktail party before so people could mingle, and then the ceremony. It didn’t take that long and, by the end of it, I just wanted to go home to my husband and puppy. It was too much to take in at once. Although I guess, this is the epitome of your blogging career and a way to get even more recognition and appreciated by all the hard work you do.
Most people I know do not take blogging seriously. They think it’s a hobby, a way to pass your time. But often forget about how difficult it is to create something every single day. It’s not only the pretty pictures, but the content, what to write, how to write it, approaching people, sharing. There’s a whole lot of work that goes into it and, my guess is, you can tell when a post is not good or was just written in 10 minutes. There’s a whole process – at least for me – to get something out there. I do my research, I draft something out, I read it and re-read it and I think about the overall concept of the image.

Sometimes it works well, others it doesn’t. It’s all an experiment that makes you grow smarter, wiser and more proficient. You begin to tame difficult questions, burn outs and days when nothing seems to work out. And as in any creative job, those happen more often than not.

If there was one thing this night taught me, was to stay true to yourself, don’t let the spotlight turn you into someone you’re not and work fucking hard to accomplish your goals. You’ll eventually reach them. Hope you had an amazing weekend!
