I feel like certain prints take you back to your childhood or specific moments in your life. We can all say that preppy is back to school, leather jackets are rock concerts and gingham is retro. It goes way back into the 1800’s but in the last hundred years it was seen as minimal, utilitarian, domestic and youthful. It’s associated with the typical 50’s housewife, the crazy young girl in the 60’s, the rebel in the 70’s and, now, the it girls. I’ve had gingham shirts, pants and even shoes in the past.
But this gingham skirt stole my heart.
I found it while researching for a post and immediately bookmarked it. Since I’m trying not to impulsively buy things, I often bookmark them to think about it. If in two days time I still want them, I get them. More often than not, I end up not buying the item, but this skirt, I could not let it go. The greatest thing about it is, even though it has a print, it goes with almost anything you can imagine. I’ve worn it for the past few weeks with a simple top, a vintage tee and a denim shirt. The sky’s the limit.
There are some pieces in my closet that have deep sentimental value to me. Whether because I wore them on special occasions or were simply a conquer to have them. Not only of love letters, books and pictures are great moments and memories made of. And this gingham skirt has the potential to be part of something really special.
This day, I wore it to brunch with friends, and just felt appropriately casual. The detail in the front is perfect and makes any accessory unnecessary. Worn with this simple top and my favorite sneakers, there’s absolute no going wrong. Also get a denim jacket in it to make it look even more it-appropriate.
