A few weeks ago, me and M went out to dinner at a local restaurant and we were told we had to wait 40 minutes for a table, which resulted in us eating at the bar. While we were waiting, we stood next to the hostess who was crazy busy, running around and trying to manage incoming guests, calls and sitting people at the tables. I wouldn’t normally notice that much but, something very particular caught my attention, besides her being very pretty and having a long hair. I didn’t quite figure out what it was but, as I discussed it with M, I came to a conclusion that strikes me as obvious, this girl was highly uncomfortable in her clothes.
She was wearing this super mini-skirt and constantly pulling it down. It resonated with me, because I know the feeling (unfortunately) extremely well, we all probably do. And that’s one of the worst mistakes women do in fashion, wear something that doesn’t feel comfortable or natural.
We all have to learn and get to know ourselves and our body, to figure out what works best. That entails making some mistakes and being in some uncomfortable situations! Not that long ago, when I was working in Brooklyn, I wore a nude pair of Topshop sandals, which I would come to regret later that day. I thought I was just going home after work, but a friend invited me to go to an exhibition and out to dinner, which I couldn’t refuse. We walked so much and, by the time I got to the train, to go home, there were no seats available, I remember looking at my feet, literally crying and imagining the moment M picked me up from the train. He thought I was mugged, or something had happened, because I couldn’t stop crying from the pain I was in.
My advice, if you care to know, is to always love what you wear but, more importantly, make sure it fits, suits, looks and feels good on you. There’s nothing more enchanting than being comfortable and, when we’re not, it’s highly noticeable.
