Ever since I was little, I’ve had this obsession with organization. Not necessarily when it comes to dealing with my life but the space I inhabit, and I can be pretty compulsive with it. I love having a clean, neat and everything-in-its-place space, especially if I’m living in it, and believe things are supposed to be accessible, visible, easily cleaned and not overly cluttered.
I don’t apply this behavior only to the outside, but I have a drawer, closet, bathroom and kitchen cabinet and fridge system where I keep things reachable, not touching each other if possible and visible, so I don’t forget they exist. This helps me know what I have in my wardrobe, kitchen and bathroom, avoiding extra unnecessary purchases.
I keep loose items in boxes so they are not spread around the apartment. Chargers, hairdryers, curling irons, hair accessories – like scrunchies and pins – passports, cards, tape, markers. I feel they give an extra touch to an otherwise cluttered space.
Nail polishes and lipsticks can also be a decorative accent, especially if you use them a lot. I apply lipstick on a daily basis, it’s only natural to keep it in hand, for when I’m late or just don’t want to think about the colors I have. Nail polishes are a great way to add some extra color to our white furniture, and I tend to spread them through the apartment, whether in a jar or neatly organized.
Sweaters and knits are always a great challenge when it comes to organizing. I used to have them stacked on top of each other but tend to forget the ones on the bottom. A few years ago, while organizing a friend’s closet, I decided to turn them on the side and display them like above. It’s so much easier to spot them and know what you have and impossible to mess up while taking one out.
Shoes are a humdinger, but I keep the ones I wear most in this shoe holder, where I can quickly access them. We also have these shoe boxes in our coat wardrobe, which helps me keep count of my shoes and, before leaving the apartment, decide which ones to wear.
