The Case For Wearing His or Hers Clothes

I’ve been a long time advocate of wearing my husband’s clothes. Ever since we started dating, I adored some of his clothes. But in the beginning, I was too shy to ask. It wasn’t until we moved to Dubai, almost 2 years into the relationship, where I first borrowed a shirt. A flannel shirt, to be exact. That shirt still haunts my dreams, I love it. Today’s fashion industry, is clearly making a case for wearing his or hers clothes. By saying that I mean, being a woman and wearing men’s clothes and vice versa.

There’s a sort of androgyny going on where there are no clear limits as to what one can wear/look. And because fashion has no rules, this becomes an important statement. Why shouldn’t we wear whatever we want? If I get something for my husband but I also want to wear it, I shouldn’t be judged by it. Long were the days where I felt like I had to wear tight clothes to prove my femininity. Nowadays, I just want to wear what I like. No apologies necessary. Even designers are showing both men and women collections on the same runway. Perusing models that leave us guessing if they are men or women.

I just simply love that. We shouldn’t be identified by our genders but by who we want to be. If I want to wear a pair of baggy pants and a slouchy sweatshirt, I should. And if a men wants to wear a pink t-shirt, he should too. The case for wearing his or hers clothes is one of high discussion. But for me, there shouldn’t be any discussion at all.

And today’s outfit (and others I’ve worn) stands for that. This bomber is from Zara man, but I love the roughness of it – even though it’s new. Just has a badass bitch look to it. I got it for my husband with 100% intentions of wearing it myself. I did the same here with his t-shirt and here with his sweater. And I’ll keep doing it, until it’s the norm. Which apparently, we’re already on our way to doing.
