Weekend Highlights – Murphy’s Law Edition

Sunday lunch at The Smith on Lincoln Square.

For those of you who don’t remember (like me), or don’t know, what Murphy’s Law is, let me explain. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. That’s basically it. And this weekend was an understatement of that. Friday, to be more exact. It all started with an early rise with Poppy, which is normally, totally fine. Both me and my husband want to allow him to be with us on the bed in the morning – and you might’ve seen some stories on my Instagram. But then, without a warning, he peed. This huge puddle! Ha! Amazing start of the morning.

Breakfast was fine and I took a few hours to work, answer e-mails and catch up on social media. By lunch time I went to Manhattan to run some errands for the apartment. It was scolding hot and the humidity almost impossible. By early afternoon I was home and went back to work, only to have my hard drive magically stop working. It ejected and immediately started making weird noises. Just to paint you a picture, all my work is there. It’s Monday, and I still haven’t recovered what’s inside. I panicked, cried and went on a hunt for an IT shop close by. Nothing any of them could do, some of them didn’t even answer.

Saturday morning, woke up with the sunrise, got ready and went to Manhattan to the Apple store. I bought the hard drive four months ago, never dropped it. Seemed impossible that it just stopped working. Nothing they could do – but the guy was extremely nice, even though I was being a bitch. But I ended up apologizing. He gave me the address of the only data recovery company that was, supposedly, open on Saturday. Went down 20 blocks, had my first Momofuku Milk Bar milkshake, waited half an hour for it open. Only to find that no one was there. Called the company, got three different phone numbers that led to the same exact line. Cried. Started searching for another data recovery store, nada.

After a 3 hour hunt, I sat down, cried a bit more and gave up. Ended up going to lunch and having a manicure with a friend on the Upper West Side. After that, things started going smoothly. Came back home, spent time with Poppy, went to dinner with M and friends and Sunday was dedicated to the apartment. Went to IKEA, West Elm, had lunch at The Smith and spent the rest of the day assembling things and organizing whatever we could.

I’m still bummed, pissed, sad and irritable, but the good thing is, family is everything! More on that later this week. Hope you had a great weekend!
