The most important thing to know about New York Fashion Week is how everything is shifting. Designers, clothes, seasons, combinations and clearly there are no paradigms and all is being questioned. From how to put on fashion shows (take Kanye West and DVF), to the relevance of season’s.
Michael Kors had sweaters for night, flowers in sequins, Calvin Klein went for the bold animal prints and sleek silhouettes, Marc Jacobs had a clearly gothic, victorian and 90’s inspiration and nothing is as it was. With NYFW being over, it’s time to reflect, rewind and take a look at the nine moments that defined it and a/w 2016 trends.

Coach / DKNY |
Military: military coats were seen in several shows and are particularly one of my favorite, especially when beautifully tailored like seen on the Coach collection.
Strong coats: if you browse through the runway shows, something that automatically popped were the strong statement coats every designer brought to the table. Color block, faux fur, patched, leather, bombers, in all shapes and sizes, were definitely the belle of the ball.

Alexander Wang / Calvin Klein |
Sports: sports motifs were found in various collections. Alexander Wang stayed true to his style and made a statement with the cannabis leaf and Coach also envisioned a fall/winter collection with a sporty chic look.
Masculine tailoring: this is the era for the anything-is-possible and women want to wear men’s clothes, which is becoming more and more legit. Especially seen in tailored suits and combos, the masculine style is here to stay.

Calvin Klein / Michael Kors Collection |
Mixing prints: from Calvin Klein, to Michael Kors, Altuzarra and many more, mixing prints has become an art for most of the designers, and one they craft well. I love seeing paired things that aren’t supposed to work but actually do and, next fall and winter we will be able to see it come to life.
Faux fur: still going strong, faux fur is becoming, if possible, even more prominent. Not only in coats but details and accessories and, most shows will tell you that it’s still going to be okay to wear it.

Altuzarra |
Ethnic: Altuzarra was my favorite show of all the ones I watched. The boho, ethnic, long-dresses captivated me like honey to bee. I’m completely obsessed with the above look and can’t wait to try the sweater-under-long-dress thing.

Marc Jacobs / Michael Kors Collection |
Goth: seen on Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, the goth and 90’s are here to stay. Pronounced eyes, sleek hair, juxtaposing of clothes, leather jackets and a badass attitude.
Cropped pants: whether straight or flared, we’ve been seeing cropped pants everywhere and street style is proving it. Michael Kors had several different types of cropped pants that were styled to perfection.
