We all have habits, attitudes, ticks, behaviors and thoughts we’d like to stop. Sometimes it annoys someone close to us but the worst, is when it annoys us. You know that meme going around the web that says ain’t nobody got time for that? This is one of those situations. I narrowed down five habits I definitely want to stop this year, no excuses.
The big P always hovering over our heads. There are a lot of ways to battle it but, the only problem is, ultimately they all depend on you. I have a big dose of motivation pushed in me the moment I wake up. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t. But the thing is, you only have yourself to work towards to, please and sometimes rely. You are the one that have to make it count. So any time you feel like laying around all day, in bed, in your couch or in a chair, don’t. Try your best to make something about it.
I’m a highly anxious person. About myself, about where I live, about doing and finishing tasks, about others. But primarily, I’m anxious about situations I cannot control – like flying. That’s a very painful task for me to do it because I have absolutely no control, whatsoever, over what happens. The same applies to when I start a project, I’m always eager for it to finish because I want to see the end result. It’s not healthy and I’m sure the few white hairs I have are because of it, so every year, I make it a sort of a resolution to stop with the anxiety and enjoy the present, without feeling the need to control everything and everyone around me.
This one kind of goes along the lines with the previous one. Small things like spilling something over a sweater, tripping over something, people talking bad about you behind your back, getting no’s when applying to interviews. You have to remember – right it down, make a poster, have a mental note – not to sweat over things you cannot control. Unless you ruined a perfectly good and new sweater! It only causes stress, obsession, frustration. A lot of words we should avoid as much as we can.
To be honest, this isn’t something I do very often, but every time I do, it ruins my day. I love getting up early and getting most of my daily errands done before 10am. That’s the time I like to switch on my computer with a cup of tea or water in front of me and read the news, blogs I follow, catch up on my own blog and read and reply to emails. I will try to do that less this year to avoid being in a bad mood.
I tend to eat a lot of chocolates and gluten free cookies. Almost every time, I hate myself for it. Sometimes it feels good to have a piece of chocolate – my guilty pleasure M&M’s – but not as often as I do. I regret it almost instantly and feel bloated the next day. This year, I want to try and eat as clean as possible with less sugar-y ingredients.
Let’s do this!
