When this time of year comes, I always feel like changing my summer routine. This wasn’t a regular summer and it was quite busy. There were no late mornings or nights, no night-outs, no dancing into the night, no beach days. But still, I feel like I’m starting to get some normal routine that I want to follow through autumn. Here are my five tips, to help or inspire you to get in your new season.
By this time, I always change my workout routine. This year I’m doing the insanity workout and I will maintain it but adding some runs and walks along with it. Yesterday I went for a walk in the evening around town and it was so lovely, felt so good, I was so happy that I’m going to make it an everyday thing. Try not to cut back on exercise and maintain a certain level of activity. It’s good for you and at the end you’ll never regret it.
I won’t be able to (mainly because I have no friends here) but you should definitely try and throw an end of summer party. Have some cocktails, some appetizers, listen to fun summer playlists, talk to your friends. In my hometown, we kind of have someone that does it for us. Every year, by the end of August there’s a party held at one of the city beaches and it’s the only night we are allowed to spend at the beach, with fire and music. It’s kind of awesome and it represents the end of a perfect summer.
Maybe not a juice cleanse or a “go-without-eating-a-week” cleanse, but just refuel energy. Try to cook healthy meals for two, three weeks with lots of vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water. Maybe you’ll get accustomed and you will continue throughout fall and winter. It gets your energy up and makes you feel motivated. I started by going to some farms and organic markets getting fresh fruit and vegetables and try putting some effort into all my meals. I also try to always eat a different breakfast to keep me enthusiastic when I get up.
As I said before, enjoy these days to go for a walk with a friend or just by yourself with some music. I love to do that. When the days start to get cooler and you feel that evening breeze. You can do it after work, early in the morning, but do it. Don’t be afraid to go by yourself, it can be your alone time.
Everything I don’t wear during summer gets packed into plastic containers so I can make room for the jumpers and camisoles and scarfs. It’s a good time to re-think your closet and maybe even get rid of some items you’re just not using. Better yet, donate them. That’s what my mother and I always do. My trick is, if I don’t wear it for a year, it’s going in the pile. There’s no better way. And, like this, I can definitely make room for new clothes. Smart and practic.
