Interviews are a hard process to deal with. You feel like there’s a lot of pressure on you because you’re future, career and life can depend on that moment when you go in a coffee shop or an office for a 15 minute skill, personality and evaluation test. My experience with interviews is very extent, even though I’m at a junior level. If I combine Lisbon, Dubai and New York, I can call myself a complete expert. I narrowed down some helpful tips that you should always have in mind when going on interviews and can become a game changer when it comes to deciding which candidate to choose.
1. Always ask at least two relevant questions.
2. Have your phone on mute.
3. Have an agenda or notebook with a pen and your business card.
4. Nod your head when you’re listening to what the interviewer is telling you.
5. Refrain from your nasty habits (e.g. bitting nails or shaking a leg).
6. When talking about yourself, make sure to be concise and use simple language.
7. Try to squeeze a casual joke to lighten the mood.
8. Don’t cross your arms.
9. If you can, bring a book you are actually reading, that can be a conversation starter.
10. Don’t get too personal.
