Now that I am back home, I have a ton of things to do and cross of my checklist. Being here just for two weeks seems almost impossible because there’s always so many people to see, time to enjoy and places to go. But if there’s something I learned while living in Dubai and going back home, was that some things are top priority. Here is my list:
I think this is the far most important one. I realized over the years that my family is my biggest support and they really are my one and true home. Wherever they are, it feels like home. My parents, my brother, I mean, these are the people you can completely and totally be yourself with, how can you not spend time with them? One of the things that hurts the most living abroad is not being able to see them everyday or every other weekend.
Having always lived near the beach, it’s an obligatory pit stop almost every day. During Christmas and holiday time, it’s usually sunny back home, so every morning, I walk to the beach and around the beach. The smell, the feel of the sand, it’s just rejuvenating.
During this time of year my hometown becomes filled with everyone returning home for the holidays. It’s the time we all get to see each other and know what we’ve been up to. I already know who’s going to be back so this just makes it all more exciting to get together!
Not cooking for almost two weeks sounds a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Not cooking and eating my mum’s food? Sounds even better. I know everyone says that their mom is the cooker in the world and she probably is, but to me, home is not the same without her cookings filled with love.
Seeing them is the cherry on top of a huge cake. Some of them I’ve known since I’m 5, others since I’m 14 and more recently, but overall, I can say I have a pretty great group of friends I can trust and feel welcomed and missed. Without them, home just wouldn’t be the same.
