Winter ’15 basics to get

Winter already started, we know it and feel it. But it’s always good to get a reminder of what we should be getting without a doubt. Winter in New York is the most extreme winter I have ever experienced and nothing seems to keep me warm – not even inside the apartment. When the temperature goes below zero Celsius, I get aloof and don’t know what to do. Back in Portugal things stay roughly within the positive or zero temperatures. It’s safe to say that I wasn’t mentally prepared for living somewhere the snow stays in for days. So, before you leave the house, make sure you have a pair of tights, two pairs of socks, a lot of basics to wear underneath the chunky knits, a beanie, earmuffs, comfy, warm and/or impermeable boots and a good, also impermeable, big coat. Investing in a coat goes a long way to survive the cold. My mother got me one at a flea market we have in our hometown for 5€ (which is around $6), and it’s the warmest, wind-blocking, heat-keeping, best jacket I have ever owned. I’ve been carrying around ever since we got to New York.
