Three way toast

When I found out I was intolerant to wheat flour, besides being overwhelmed, I had to figure out what kind of alternatives I had to the regular things I was eating – bread, crackers, cookies, pizza crust, pasta. If you start looking our for these things, you find that wheat flour is in basically and almost everything we consume. So, one of the things I started eating were these toasts that had no wheat flour and you can find them in any supermarket.

Unfortunately they’re not rich in flavor so you have to get creative when eating them. I particularly like to have them either for a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, they are not too heavy and with just one you’ll be satisfied. These are my most famous three way toast ingredients, I think it’s important to vary because otherwise you can get tired of the toast really quickly.

Avocado and honey: avocado is always a great choice to spread on a cracker. My father used to make me this, sort of, avocado puree with honey for desert, and it has stuck with me ever since. I don’t recommend it everyday, but the combination is delicious. Just slice half of an avocado, you can save the other half for a salad or a guacamole, and spread a tablespoon of honey over it.

Turkey ham and tomato: I would normally have this one as a mid-afternoon snack and the simplicity of it makes it perfect to take to work or just eat it before exercising. It will certainly give you the energy you need without making you feel too full.

Cottage cheese and blueberry jam: I’m more of a sweet tooth kind of girl so, obviously, my choices are more on the sweet side. Low fat cottage cheese can be a great substitute for yogurt, for example, but it’s also great in a cracker with a bit of jam to sweeten it up. I’m all up for the blueberry jam but feel free to spread your favorite kind.
