Every turn of the season, the most influential fashion capitals of the world flood with street style inspiration, photographers fight for the first row click and fashion connoisseurs bubble with excitement over the season ahead. This is what’s called Fashion Week. Last week, New York was the center of the fashion world attention with the hottest designers showing off their new collections (and selections) for spring 2016 – and we are just now getting into fall mood. I spotted a few of the hit trends that are going to be in, come next spring.
Everything waisted: dresses, shirts, coats, jackets, knitwear, everything can and should have a belt on it, accentuating our feminine curves and holding everything in place.
Back to school: a few of the designers showed us a lot of back to school inspiration with the use of symbolic pieces that take us back to those days.
Off the shoulder: the shoulder has come to be one of the biggest accessories of the season, having most designers give us pieces that focus all of the attention on that bit of skin.
Men inspired wear: I’m a big fan of men inspired outfits, especially when it’s the suit combination. It’s normally loose, flow-y and remind us how amazing it is to be a woman and able to share the same style as men.
Co-ords: co-ords were already a big hit last spring, this coming fall and, apparently, the trend is here to stay. I’m obsessed over it and already looking for a new ensemble that can be worn well into winter as well.
Hair parted in the middle: with the exception of a few shows, most of them showed models wearing a parted in the middle kind of hair, letting us know it’s still in.
Leather: leather is, again, one of the runway stars, seen in jackets, vests, shorts and bags. You can never have too much leather and it’s always a good investment because it has been seen over the last few years as a go-to item to get.
Mixing prints: Coach, DVF, Anna Sui and many more, are trying to tell us that we should be mixing our prints – like I so predicted here. Just make sure you follow a few simple rules.
Oversized structured jackets: I’ve also been seeing a lot of this throughout many runway shows, and even ready-to-wear stores like Zara and Massimo Dutti. If you decide to invest on a jacket for this season, make sure it can follow you through spring.
White t-shirt: white is always a big tendency when it comes to spring, we need to breath from the fall and winter colors that we are going to dread and shunt for the months that follow. Plus, it’s always a great basic to have.
Cross skirt: a crossed skirt is a sort of a late nineties, early two thousands trend. I remember having two beautiful cross skirts that I wore until exhaustion.
Shear clothes: DVF stayed true to herself and showed us what mixing prints and shear clothes are all about. Her beautiful and feminine dresses make us want to be spring every single month of the year. I think I can safely say that shear clothes were one of the things seen in every single show, make sure to keep it classy and appropriate though.
Statement jewelry: we go from small and dainty jewelry to big statement and bright pieces. Givenchy showed us round and long necklaces to wear over dark and juxtaposed clothes.
Tied around the waist: I was actually surprised to see that many designers are sporting this trend and telling us that the more ties, the better.
Flow-y silhouettes: every runway show has flow-y and loose pieces that are still beautifully structured with, normally, a belt or scarf.
Velvet: being a trend for fall, it’s going to continue way into spring and probably follow us until next fall. It’s a very sexy fabric that makes any outfit look chic and shiny.
Plunging necklines: another prominent detail is the plunging necklines that go all the way down to our chests and almost reach our belly buttons. Again, make sure you keep it classy and it suits your body type.
