More often than not, our outfits could use a little sprucing up with a few details we don’t think about. Rather than being dull or flat, they can be fun and extrovert, making us look the part. I often get confused and end up messing my whole outfit because I’m not sure what and where I want to go with it, choosing the wrong accessories or accents. Lately, I’ve been more observant and getting more the feel of details and what they can do to your whole ensemble – see inspiration here – and while I can’t be called an expert, I figured a few things out.
Lace details. This past spring/summer was high on lace details everywhere. They can mostly be associated and worn during those two seasons but there’s a cool way to bring them over to the cooler ones. Just wear them under a v-neck knit or dress to add some extra je ne sais quois.
Shirts, especially denim, are one of my favorite items to wear, and the oversized the better, but they can look dull and make you look sort of shapeless. There are a few ways to style a shirt, depending on what you’re wearing, but I mostly do a tied knot around the waist and roll up the sleeves, making them look like you did it in a rush. The overall look feels immediately more put together and polished.
The same can happen with a t-shirt or a sweater – as seen here – but the trick, in this case, falls on accessories you can wear that will instantly elevate your whole look. You can just add the belt for some structure in your waist area and, if you feel like that’s not enough, a printed scarf, adding an edge of sophistication.
I actually love when you can see your lingerie through a shirt or t-shirt, it feels classic, sexy but not exaggerated and makes people wonder. I have a few go-to pieces to wear underneath a few of my shirts and they look impeccable.
Although simple is always key when it comes to a staple wardrobe, we don’t want to overdue it and end up looking bare. For me, the simpler the better, with a touch of playfulness in between, so add a colorful lipstick, do some messy waves or a scarf as a bandana – which is one of my favorite things to do (seen here and here).
