When the Apple Watch officially came out I wasn’t that curious about it, I’m not a techie and not the girl you see looking out for the latest device launch. But after I came back from Portugal, last September, M surprised me with one and I was fairly excited. Of course I didn’t find much use for it in the beginning but, as I started reading more and seeing bloggers post about it, something clicked. Here are five ways I use my Apple Watch.
The best feature for me, besides telling time without having to look at the phone, is how the watch can be programmed to track your exercise progress throughout the day. It tells you how many miles/kms you do, how many calories you spent and lets you know when you’ve been sitting down for too long, encouraging you to stand up and walk around for a bit.
We all know this isn’t necessarily a breakthrough, but try being in New York when it’s freezing cold and you have to go to your phone because it vibrated or you got a text message. With the watch, the notifications pop up instantly letting you know if it’s something urgent or not.
Every week we go somewhere we haven’t been before and we end up using the GPS, either the car or the phone’s. With the watch, if you program your destination on your iPhone, it tells you the instructions directly, vibrating and letting you know when you have to turn or stop. It’s great because you avoid looking at the phone and comfortably just glimpse the watch on your wrist.
We all know the dangers of driving and talking on the phone and a great feature is how you can answer the call on your watch. The speakers and microphone aren’t great but if it’s something quick, it definitely does the trick.
I know it sounds silly, but the watch has an option through which you can send small drawings to someone on your phone book. Me and M do that often and, while he’s at work, it’s always a great pick-me-up to get a little heart, some limerick or private joke and vice-versa.
