Washington sightseeing

A few weeks back and last week you got a glimpse of our weekend in Washington D.C. Today, this post is about all the sightseeing we did. It was a short weekend and we had only one day to walk around the city. We got there Saturday night, had dinner and went for a small walk around our hotel – mainly to find a CVS pharmacy, but that’s not important. On Sunday, we went for breakfast at PAUL’s and the first thing we saw was, obviously, the White House. I have to be honest and say I thought it was bigger and more imposing, but it was this cute house surrounded by land, police, vigilantes and people. We took a few pictures there and carried on the World War II Memorial.

You might not know – I surely didn’t – but Washington D.C. is an ode to all the great United States accomplishments. The city is filled with memorials dedicated to its triumphs and people who built this country, and of course, the address of the president. The WWII Memorial looks over the reflection pool and the Lincoln Memorial – which was the greatest single thing I saw in Washington D.C. Also the Washington Monument seen above and the Constitution Avenue that holds all the museums, like the Smithsonian and the National Gallery of Art. The Capitol was under construction and the Pentagon is off limits, you can only drive by car.

By the end of the day, me and M went to the International Spy Museum, while is mother and sister went to the hotel, which turned us into nervous nellies, looking everywhere for spy signs. It was a hot spring day, high temperatures and humidity, and we all got sun burned (rookie mistake) but it was great to leave New York for a short weekend and get a sense of (yet) another american city. I was fairly impressed by how organized and clean Washington D.C. is and, it’s safe to say, I loved it!
