The Oscars

The Oscars are always a pretty big deal for the film and fashion industry. Shows are held to follow what the big stars of Hollywood present: what stylist they pick – or picks them – what hair they do, what make-up they use, what film they are nominated for and so on. I always love to watch the red carpet and give my, pretty small, opinion about what I see. So my choices this year are (not necessarily in the order they are shown):

The above are eight of the best dressed on the red carpet yesterday. My favorite is, without a doubt, Emma Stone’s dress and Naomi Watt’s long bob. Reese Witherspoon also shined and everything about her look is flawless – very Hollywood. Julianne Moore – best actress winner – is always on my top favorite, even though I thought the dress was lost in her skin tone. Cate Blanchett looks extremely elegant in her velvet dress and statement blue necklace and the timeless Meryl Streep, I mean, look at her. Rosamund Pike isn’t someone I would normally pick, but she looks very elegant, very slim, very put together after the Golden Globes fail, I would almost say she looks like someone who would win the Oscar for best actress.

Well, this is always an easy choice to make because you either love or hate it. These are some of the ones I thought failed, for one or another reason. Anna Kendrick always looks neat but I feel like it’s a side shot, not her color and the dress does not impress. Chrissy Teigen’s dress looks like four different dresses put together. The top is beautiful but the bottom just looks like a mess. I love, love, love Jessica Chastain, everything she wears and that unbelievably gorgeous face, but this dress does not make her justice – even though the color is beautiful. Keira Knightley, well, no comments about it. Kerry Washington’s dress reminds me of old prom dresses and the tule on the top is never my thing. Nicole Kidman’s hair looks beautiful but the dress looks very cheap. Scarlett, dear Scarlett, that dress looks gorgeous, that necklace just ruins everything. Too much. Viola Davis has an amazing skin tone that just disappears in that color and the shape does not fit her body.

These are all the ones I thought were in between. Whether it’s Jennifer Aniston in the same look as always, maybe a bit more glamorous, Dakota Johnson’s one strap dress or Zoe Saldana’s elegant but nude dress. Felicity Jones has been having a flawless award season but did not up her game in the Oscars. The combination between the jeweled turtleneck and the bangs does not meet the right proportions. Chloe Grace Moretz has always a good and keen sense of style but here is just ok. Gwyneth could’ve gotten it right but being one-shouldered is a deal breaker for me. Sienna Miller, the eternal boho girl (a word she now hates), is looking beautiful but not extraordinary.
