It’s basically worldwide known that North America has a lot of classics when it comes to food. Caesar salad, chocolate chip cookies, hamburgers, so on. I’m starting a new series on the blog in which I’m going to be reproducing America’s most classic recipes, with a personal touch. I’m starting with the one we all know as caesar salad. It’s fairly simple to do and requires very few ingredients.

Ingredients: romaine lettuce, sliced bread, olive oil, assorted herbs, salt and pepper, caesar salad sauce.

Recipe (for the croutons): chop the sliced bread in small cubes, spread them in an oven appropriate pan, add some olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. Let them cook around 15 minutes in a 350º Fahrenheit (or 175º Celsius) pre-heated oven. Remove, stir them a bit and wait for them to cool down.

Recipe (for the salad): rinse the romaine lettuce leaves and, either chop them or spread them in a bowl – I chopped them in this recipe. I would normally do my own dressing (see different recipes here and here) with a yolk, mustard and lemon juice, but I wanted to try Whole Foods vegan caesar dressing. Add the croutons and gently toss the mix.

Extra tip: sometimes, I add a few pealed shrimps to the mix but I’m trying to stay off meats and fish as much as I can. For that, just get frozen or fresh shrimps, peal the skin off and cook them in a medium pan with a little bit of olive oil and garlic. As soon as they are cooked, place them on top of the salad and enjoy!
