I read a lot of decoration blogs and catalogs, have a decor board on my Pinterest and browse through online pages of other people’s houses. Until about, two years ago, I wasn’t into interior decoration and didn’t give that much thought into my space. Sure, I liked to choose my bedroom furniture and a few other objects but that was the extent of my interest.
Nowadays, I’m crazy about decorating and figuring out where everything goes. But, given that me and my brother were always prone to allergies, especially to dust, my parents had to be careful and have easy-cleanable-furniture and spaces. We never had too many things but our home always felt cosy. Now that I am in charge of decorating this apartment, I took it to the extreme. I was constantly pining, browsing and looking through catalogs. Even though it’s not exactly what I want, because let’s face it, when it’s not your apartment or house, you give a second thought when investing in things.
I realize now that I have a very simplistic approach to decoration. I’d rather have most of my furniture in white so I have a free canvas to paint. Simple details rely on books, paintings, candles and so on, to make this apartment a home. I try not to have a lot of things lying down to make it easier to clean and have space to put on whatever we need to. Either the objects are useful and things we utilize every day, or they are minimal decoration remarks. Our rule of thumb is, ultimately, declutter!
